PROFESSIONAL STATEMENT

Dr. Robin L. Kay is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 21 years of clinical experience. Dr. Kay maintains a private practice in Los Angeles, California where she treats individuals and couples and supervises mental health practitioners. She maintains an appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. In addition, she teaches and conducts clinical training groups for mental health professionals interested in learning Attachment-based Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy. Dr. Kay conducts weekly psychotherapy sessions and block treatment for out of town patients. Dr. Kay's work is active and based on full collaboration between herself and her patients. Her aim is to remove psychiatric symptoms and to help patients regain or achieve their highest level of functioning as quickly as possible.

 

ISTDP PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT / TRAINING STATUS

Dr. Kay obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley where she was a University Merit Scholar and a recipient of a Presidential Undergraduate Fellowship. Dr. Kay graduated Summa Cum Laude from UC Berkeley and was awarded Psi Chi honors. She subsequently obtained a Masters degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Kay's post-degree professional training includes 18 years of clinical experience (post-doc). Dr. Kay has been practicing ISTDP since l998. She studied Attachment Based IS-TDP in the core training program of Dr. Robert Neborsky from 1998-2001. Subsequently, she participated in a core group training program led by Dr. Habib Davanloo from 2001-2002. From 2002-2004, she studied Interpersonal Neurobiology in Dr. Daniel J. Siegel's advanced study group and seminars. Dr. Kay served as the Assistant-Director of Clinical Training for the Southern California Society for ISTDP from 2003-2008.

 

PUBLICATIONS, PRESENTATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

Dr. Kay's thirty-six hour course on Attachment-based Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy has been offered through UCLA extension since 2004. Currently she teaches a ninety-six hour course designed for psychiatry residents at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA where she holds an appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences.
