Jon Frederickson, MSW and Josette ten Have-de Labije, Psy.d., will conduct a day of supervision at the University of California , Los Angeles on Friday, October 23, 2009.The supervision will be from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. There will be an hour off for lunch, which will not be provided but which can easily be purchased within walking distance. Eight continuing education hours will be offered for psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and physicians who participate the entire day and complete an assessment and evaluation. This supervision will be open to mental health professionals who either want to have their own work supervised or who want to audit without presenting case material. A forty-five minute video excerpt from a psychotherapy session, preferably unedited and starting from the beginning of the session will be needed from those who want their work supervised.

When:
Friday, October 23, 2009
Time:
8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Fee:

$150 for video supervision;
$100 for non-video participation
(no refunds after October 1st)

Where:
37-415, Semel Institute/Neuropsychiatric Institute, UCLA

(Out of town participants will be provided parking instructions and housing information if needed. This site is wheelchair accessible)

During the supervision all participants will have an opportunity to ask questions, make comments, and request clarification of the material. The supervisors will show participants how to best proceed with their patients following the Central Dynamic Sequence (CDS) as developed by Habib Davanloo, MD, using their own refinements. Participants will learn to gauge their patient's ability to channel anxiety in a healthy manner and to help the patient to learn to do so also. Emphasis will be placed on the patient's body language, somatic experiences, and metapsychlogical processes, as well as on the narrative the patient uses to communicate to the therapist. Mr. Frederickson and Dr. ten Have-de Labije will role-play with the participants to help them to better understand the dynamics of the cases and to apply the techniques of ISTDP. At the end of the program participants will:

Better understand the principles of ISTDP

Better understanding of the techniques for restructuring anxiety and lowering defenses to reveal core conflict
Will understand the expectations for the psychotherapist and for the patient using the ISTDP model
Have improved ability to regulate anxiety in their patients
Have a better understanding of the workings of the Superego

For participants requesting continuing education hours, various materials such as sign-in sheets and evaluation and assessment forms will be provided.
