Whistler

A spectacular 90 minute drive takes us up the Sea to Sky Highway, along the fiords of Howe Sound and through the canyons of the Tantalus Mountain range. We will depart from the UBC campus Monday morning (approximately 9am ), by bus (included in your fees) and arrive at Whistler around Noon …with a short stop for coffee, tea, and muffins at beautiful Shannon Falls Provincial Park. We arrive at Legends Resort to check in, have a lunch break and begin our afternoon Summer School session promptly at 2pm.

Legends Resort, Whistler BC Canada

Legends is your launch point to experience all that Whistler is famous for. Wake up early to enjoy a run on the Valley Trail, a walk along the lake, or to sip a hot coffee on your balcony and watch the mountain awaken in the sunlight. There is always something new to discover. This February, the Whistler Creekside is the venue for the 2010 Olympic Alpine events. In the summer, enjoy the languid, quietness with championship golf, world class spas, shopping, and a plethora of outdoor activities only steps away from the lobby.

Capturing the vibrant atmosphere of this dynamic destination, Legends confidently sets itself apart from the more traditional mountain lodges, with bold colours and a laid back ambience. Families will appreciate the amenities. Couples will enjoy the atmosphere.

Accommodation and Meals

The Summer School will be meeting in the resort's spacious meeting rooms just a quick elevator ride to the main floor. The room has a projector and screen, comfortable seating, natural light and air, and of course air conditioning and room temperature control.

The Summer School starts promptly upon our arrival Monday afternoon and continues until Friday evening. Lunches will be provided on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday as well and two daily coffee breaks. Breakfasts and evening meals are on your own. All suites (see below) have dining and kitchen facilities and there are gourmet local grocer steps away to create your own breakfasts in your suite or enjoy the local breakfasts at nearby cafes. In the Summer School Immersion tradition, we often enjoy dinner together at a local restaurant—which is highly recommended, but optional of course. Guests are invited to join us on these outings but you may wish to find your own private table at the many fine dining venues throughout Whistler to enjoy tie with your guest or on your own.

Wednesday offers a break from our fascinating studies, video reviews and growing collegiality to allow you to discover, explore and enjoy the spectacular sights and activities that Whistler is famous for—either on your own, with your guest, or with your colleagues. We will organize activities such as white water rafting, golf, hiking, mountain biking, etc. for you to do your own “Into the Wild (With a Safe Return)” adventure. (More details to follow as registration progresses).

To also have the Immersion experience, accommodations are shared. We have reserved a block of 3 bedroom suites (which sleep 6 people very comfortably). The units consists of 1 king bed, 1 split king bed, and double bunk beds, and 1 queen sofa bed and two full bathrooms. Each unit is approximately 1155-1290 sq ft. Room amenities include: Air-conditioning, Balcony, Bathtub/Shower Combination, Cable TV, CD player, Climate control, Coffee maker, Cutlery and China, Data port, Direct dial phones, Dishwasher, DVD, Fireplace (gas), Full kitchen, Hairdryer, Hairdryer adapter on request, In suite washer/dryer, Microwave, Pay movies, Radio, Razor outlet, Sofa bed, Stereo, Table and chairs, Toaster, Toaster oven, Voicemail, Wireless High Speed Internet Access.
